In the last few years, the trend for smaller and more intimate weddings has really taken off. Whether that’s for health and safety concerns or simply down to taste, you can’t deny that there’s something so special about celebrating your love with only your very closest and dearest people! So, if you’re looking for small wedding venues in Massachusetts to make your dream of an intimate wedding come true: you’re in luck.
Small Wedding Venues in Massachusetts
I put together this list of small wedding venues in Massachusetts to help you find the perfect venue. We’re lucky here because we honestly have so many gorgeous wedding venues! It was hard to pick these ones. But, I’ve included a real range, from grand and historic to down-to-earth and natural. Dive on in:
#1 – The Loring Greenough House, Boston
This intimate estate is a real hidden gem here in Boston! Nestled in the Jamaica Plain, it has such incredible attention to historical detail and those luxurious touches that make a day special. It’s a Georgian-era Colonial-style house with grounds that are just to die for. Think banks of luscious flowers and winding paths. You can host a reception for up to 60 people in the elegant main house. Or you can go for a tented wedding in the garden for a bigger party. And the best part? Any profit they make from hosting your event goes right back into preserving this historic site!
#2 – The Bradley Estate, Canton
We’re talking about small wedding venues in Massachusetts here, but this venue snuck onto my list of historical wedding venues in MA, too – I love it that much! Originally called Cherry Hill Farm, this property was developed in 1902. It has since become the place of elegance and beauty it is today. It features a walled garden and a greenhouse on its incredible grounds. You can opt to have an indoor ceremony and reception for up to 80 guests. Alternatively, you can bring parts of your day outside for a garden wedding!
#3 – Oakhold Farm Estate, Brookfield
There’s something irresistibly storybook about this venue. Designed at the beginning of the 20th century, the grounds and architecture are whimsical and organic. An ornamental tea house and a flowering bridge as just a few examples of the charm. With over 150 acres of land as well as a beautiful estate house, this hovers on the edge of small wedding venues in Massachusetts. Ultimately, it can accommodate intimate weddings and bigger celebrations. But, I had to include it because the overall feeling here is so intimate. To get married here is to escape from the world for a while!
#4 – The Inn at Hastings Park, Boston
This is the perfect sample of small wedding venues in Massachusetts! It’s an award-winning Inn that’s decked out in the most thoughtful, elegant-yet-adorable, vintage New England aesthetic. Each of the guest rooms are unique, blending modern luxury with true character. The Inn does in-house catering with acclaimed farm-to-table cuisine. You can work with their helpful team to craft a custom menu. If you’re planning on holding your ceremony here, you have the choice of intimate rooms in the house or taking advantage of their gardens. They have capacity for weddings of up to 30 guests.
#5 – Cogswell’s Grant, Essex
This is a little different from the other small wedding venues in Massachusetts on this list because it sort of… isn’t a venue. Cogswell’s Grant is one of the only protected stretches of land on the banks of the Essex River. It’s such a stunning part of the state. There are a few historical buildings that form part of the landscape, which you can rent out for a full wedding.
For an intimate affair, however, it is well worth checking out the microwedding package that they’re offering at Cogswell’s Grant. You can hold your ceremony on this gorgeous site at a choice of different locations with a maximum of 15 guests for just $695.
#6 – Hampshire House, Boston
Set in the heart of Boston, looking directly out onto Boston Public Garden, this five story Georgian townhouse is an exquisite example of the best small wedding venues in Massachusetts. Every detail of this place, from the rich colors of the library to the wrought-iron spiral staircase to the crystal chandeliers, holds such an amazing atmosphere of elegance and Old World charm! You and your guests will feel like total royalty if you choose to have your intimate wedding here.
#7 – The Herb Lyceum at Gilson’s, Groton
This is definitely the most unique out of all the small wedding venues in Massachusetts I’ve put on this list – it’s actually a working herb farm! You can wander from section to section of their (fully functional) herb gardens and beautifully-designed (purely ornamental) sunken gardens before settling down for a fabulous, farm-fresh gourmet meal – served in a converted greenhouse! This is an exciting recommendation because the venue was actually designed with excellent, intimate events in mind. They know what they’re doing here, and they do it so well!
#8 – Emerson Inn, Cape Ann
If you’re dreaming about an intimate seaside wedding, then out of all these small wedding venues in Massachusetts, this one’s for you. You have to consider Emerson Inn! Their intimate wedding package allows you to hold your ceremony directly on their oceanfront lawn – the waves of the Atlantic crashing in front of you and the handsome backdrop of the historic inn behind you! Then their Oceanview Terrace, which opens out into the lavish gardens and back down to the sea, is the perfect place for an intimate wedding dinner. This package is open for up to 50 guests.
