As a mom entrepreneur, time management tips are really needed. With a business to run and kids to take care of, time seems to slip away way too easily! These time management tips have made my life so much simpler, and they’ve allowed me to be successful (most of the time) when it comes to balancing my family and my work.

Start time blocking

I used to not time block at all, but have recently started blocking out my time. Essentially, this means mapping out what you’ll do and when. It’s like a plan for your day! If I have a few hours to catch up on work during naptime, I’ll note exactly what needs to be done during those two hours. Going in without a plan wastes time and I’m not successful. I start doing everything, but getting nothing done.

My plan, for example, my includes writing out captions for Instagram or doing keyword research for my blog.

Time Management Tips

Implement clear workflows

I enforce strict workflows on my business. This prevents constant procrastination and results in more consistent work. For example, I have scheduled dates for blog posts after weddings.

Put your entire workflow on post-it notes so you can see it from start to finish. This enables you to see all of the steps and discover the best ways to organize processes. Tweak minor things that aren’t working. You can then put it on a calendar. Review your workflows every six months to ensure that your workflow is still working for you. As a wedding photographer, client gifts should match your investment and overall client experience. Is it up to par?

Time Management Tips

Set deadlines

I love setting clear deadlines. If I know my gallery needs to be delivered by Friday, I’ll set aside an ample amount of time prior to that date to edit my photos. Although I don’t have a “boss” waiting expectantly for deliverables, I do have clients, and I always want to exceed expectations!

These deadlines create less guilt and more accountability — just what’s needed as a mom entrepreneur.
